In 1881, one of Scotland’s worst fishing disasters took place off the east coast. The Eyemouth disaster came about after a violent storm at sea and claimed the lives of 189 men and 29 fishing boats. Although there were warnings of a storm afoot, it was ignored on what is still known as Black Friday.
