Crazed plaster
WebI need to paint plaster walls that have deteriorated paint. More than 20 years since they were painted. Some of the paint will scrape off to the bare plaster. Some stays on. What is the best way to handle this? strip paint? how? Or cover? Options for covering include, joint compound, some sort of plaster, with or without a fiberglass layer, etc. WebApr 10, 2012 · Afternoon all I've just plastered a bricked up doorway and the whole lot crazed within 1/2 hr! The opening was bricked up using Celcon blocks and 1/2 hour before I plastered I brushed a coat of diluted pva over the area but the blocks still sucked all the moisure out of the plaster!!

Mick was totally correct in an earlier reply in that you failed to wash the walls with a sugar soap solution to remove the residual paste that would be dried on top of the plaster before you painted, the waterbased emulsion paint livened up the dried wallpaper paste and cracked on drying, Steam it off with a wallpaper ...
